The Main Street Museum

A graduate and 'friend of CCS', Al B. Wesolowsky, told me this about WRJ:

"A few years ago, a friend of mine from Boston was in WRJ for the day. She observed the Lawnchair Folk, saw that demented soul who used to hang out in front of The Studio Bakery/Than's, and some other local color.

"Al, she said, "this place is like a Stephen King story as performed on the 'Newhart' show."
"

I laughed at first, but now I believe it. Look at this. Its a quiet, northern town full of writers and townies, with harsh, isolating winters, and we have a place like the Main Street Museum. You'd love it here Dad.

This...thing is a "Jenny Hanover", a fabricated taxidermied animal. Its supposed to be the Conneticut River monster, White River Junction's very own cryptid. One of the museum's owners is into making fake monsters with taxidermy (such as jackalopes and the like).

Its a very interesting place, but I haven't had much of a chance to have a good look around because they keep weird hours. Apparently they get harassed by the homophobic/racist bike dealer next door; even I've gotten yelled at by the bike man! (EVERYBODY has a story about this guy! He's horrible xD), so they keep odd hours and usually only open by appointment to prevent visitors from getting disturbed.

We share a building with them (our library is next door), and the owner was kind enough to let me in to snap some shots when my library shift was over.

EDIT: I realize these anecdotes might make the place sound not so nice, but 90% of the people I've met up here have been amazingly friendly and helpful. That's more then you can say about any Joe off the street on Long Island! Its a bit rough around the edges, but I feel very safe and I kind of like it here.

If I see an evil clown , or a vampire, or dead pets start coming back to life, I'm coming STRAIGHT home.
